The castle was established between the 11th and 14th century on the foundations of Roman and karolingish constructions. It is one of the nicest buildings which were built in the Romanesque and Gothic style in Europe. The building was bought up in 1977 by the Luxembourgish state and was renovated by which it regained the original charm.
